Only the simplest forms of these constructs are introduced, but even these are enough for students to begin writing fairly sophisticated programs. To develop good programming habits early on, Ortega discusses programming techniques--such as top-down step-wise refinement, and the important question of detecting errors--alongside the factual material right from the beginning. By the end of Chapter 3, students will have covered most of Fortran 77 and many of the simpler added features of Fortran 90. In Chapter 4, Ortega addresses the more advanced features of Fortran 90: derived types, modules, interface blocks, overloading, and pointers, and concludes with a summary of how Fortran 77 differs from Fortran 90. Development of this text took place in many forms as a first-year programming course taught at the University of Virginia.

a simple language, but still widely used

While written in 94, Fortran is so stable that this book should still be useful to anyone desireous of learning the language. Ortega explains that there is still a pervasive need for Fortran programmers. True in 94 and 06.

The book is somewhat short, compared to a text on Java or C#, say. This reflects Fortran's pedigree. A simple language that lacks any graphics or object oriented ability. Most of the book covers Fortran 77, with its later sections explaining the improvements in Fortran 90.

A Dangerous Love Story

A young woman gets herself involved into the middle of a rescue attempt to free some prisoners of a terrorist group.

Said young woman finds herself falling in love with the man the United States has brought in to lead the rescue, but she thinks he is one of the bad guys.

Sparks fly, chemistry is right and love develops.

The novel contains a good story line that holds the reader's interest. There are some sexy love scenes but not graphic to be considered erotica. Probably appropriate for persons 17 years and above.

Worst writing she has ever done. The concept was good, but the verbiage and the way the strife between the main characters was presented was just plain annoying. I've read plenty of her other books and really enjoyed them, but this one - not so much.

Monumental work, if you know the subject

David Nicolle tends to be biased towards the Mid-East (ie: all good things in the Middle Ages come from Asia), but he manages to mostly leave his biases out in this monumental work. If you are looking for a pretty picture book, or an introduction to the topic, like various Osprey books, this ain't it. What it is a look at surviving pieces, iconography, statuary, and literary referrances to present a comprehensive look at what arms and armour of the period are recorded. Definately more for the serious enthousiast than the casual reader.

A giant book of drawings with brief info

Upon opening this book you find that it is not really a book but a giant catalog of drawings of archealogical pieces many of which have nothing to do with arms or armour. Each has a brief description and if you wish to see the line drawing of the item described you must continually flip to the back of the book. Besides these short descriptions, actual text amounts to probably only 15 pages throughout the book. Not very informative overall.

Not very helpful

The author reviews the types of behaviors that many of those with ADHD do that gets them in trouble. Also listed are many of those things that they do not but should. With the former, most of the advice provided by this author seems to consist of saying such and such behavior will land you in hot water. So don't do it. But there is little advice on how to go about modifying your behavior. Perhaps this book might be useful for kids but most adults have figured out for example that blurting things out in an undiplomatic manner will get them in trouble. But to just stay stop it is silly and useless advice.

Good on absolute fundamentals, but not much else

This book was not as useful for me as I'd hoped. There are many reasons that ADD adults have small social circles and poor social skills. For some people who have never learned the fundamentals of interacting appropriately with others, this book might prove very useful (if you always seem to be wearing the wrong thing or a group of people stares at you uncomfortably when you talk). For others, who have the basics down, there is little to be found here on maintaining relationships, or learning how to find balance between alone-time and socializing - when socializing is such hard work. In this sense, it felt like it would have been a good first half of a book, but was missing the second half. Nonetheless, few of us are perfect, and it did have some useful reminders for those of us with ADD (if I don't look at someone when they're talking, it doesn't seem that I'm listening even if I am).

Clear, simple, understandable -

The author covers the basics for the lowest denominator. Andthat is what the title claims. She covers in concise language, indiffering ways, social skills that are problematic to most ADDs in one way or the other. The examples clarify. Her writing is clear. The exercises in the appendix, if used, are eye-openers.
I recommend this book.

I love D&D, so of course the title also grabbed ...

I first heard about this book on Jeff Burk’s Jeff Attack’s podcast. He was interviewing the author, and I quickly zoned in on the fact that this is a weird fantasy novella combined with one sassy drag queen’s crazy antics. I love D&D, so of course the title also grabbed a hold of me. The problem is I found more interest in the author and the idea behind the novella than the actual content within. There are a decent amount of hilarious scenes, and I did find myself thoroughly enjoying the protagonist - Sleazella, but I still did not find myself hooked on the novella like I wanted to be. I believe for me the main issue came down to length. I just felt like there were too many good ideas that did not have enough time to develop into anything; for example, the fornication war.
Yet, I did find my time with Sleazella to be enjoyable. What can I say? I enjoy strange tales, and at its heart THIS is a strange tale. I give this little book three out of five stars, it's done well, and it has plenty of good ideas, I just did not find them fleshed out enough for my taste. With that said, I will definitely be picking up future MP Johnson novels because the talent is there, I just need a longer tale to fill in that hunger this book left me

Hilarious, Gross, and Sexy...

MP Johnson should be writing for television or film; a lot of writers get this compliment from reviewers, but Johnson has found a comfortable niche. It’s a rare gift for a writer to be able to sustain a consistent level of humor and originality through a narrative without losing a reader’s interest. While some of the best bizarro novellas are parodies and satires, MP Johnson proves that he is among the best in the new wave of bizarro fiction writers. (In case you’re wondering, MP Johnson’s book is pretty gross, with lots of swords and sorcery action).

The challenge many bizarro novels face is the “bizarre” factor; how long can a story retain its sense of originality without devolving into a relatively boring story, once the bizarre has worn off on the reader? The secret is this: an infusion of heart and character in the storytelling, and Johnson delivers. The best comedies are able to keep their audience in the same fashion, and it is here where I should draw comparisons between MP Johnson and the folks who directed Napoleon Dynamite (they made another cool movie but I can never remember the name, and I refuse to Google it). We have a genuine “weird” factor, but at the heart of the story the protagonist faces an internal struggle. It is here that I must also compare MP Johnson to Carlton Mellick III, who has also applied this mechanism to good effect in his bizarro work.

MP Johnson has transformed the “hero’s journey” concept into an entertaining, hilarious ride that gives you a chance to experience something new on every page, something that only a few bizarro authors can achieve. Johnson managed this same feat in his previous novel, but the difference is the neatly-characterized quips and struggles Sleazella experiences, which continues to lend the story a sense of authenticity without losing its ability to keep the reader involved. Johnson is an entertainer, storyteller, and bizarro craftsman. The other reviews and the synopsis will tell you what this book is “about”; my intention was to tell you what you would experience.

This book is EVERYTHING!

There are few books that can make me blush. This is one of them. It's not for the faint hearted. It's gorier, weirder, and more perverted than any other book I've read. In short, it's perfect. It made me giggle with glee, gag, and guffaw. It had echoes of John Waters, Divine, and Troma, but in a far more streamlined and modern way. It's a short read too. As a weird fantasy nerd and drag aficionado, I cannot recommend this book enough.
