A New Classic Text of the Fourth Way

There are many metaphors that are employed in metaphysical texts, and this work is no exception. Such metaphors are easily misunderstood by those that do not understand the purpose of the work. It's very easy for those who are asleep to misinterpret and misunderstand the purpose of Myth. It's something of a paradox, those that understand the least are those that would most benefit from this work, and yet, are the very same people that will never make the attempt! If you are willing to do the work, you will find many doors suddenly open to many wondrous things. If you feel drawn to this way, I highly recommend seeking out The Esoteric Black Dragon Society. Their members are extremely knowledgeable, and will be happy to assist the sincere seeker. I personally have used this text to great effect with their guidance. It has changed my outlook and attitudes on many things. Most of all, it has enabled me to be more myself, and to become more open to happiness and joy. Very unique read

This is a work that i feel will be an important addition to any collection of High Magick. To the neophyte magician interested in experimenting with the "mysteries". I advise them to be ever so cautious in pursuing the knowledge within. Regardless of the readers interpretation of the book, the price to purchase is more than worth the cost. To fully appreciate the contents within; natural magickal systems will almost certainly prove innefective in calibrating the psychosomatic complex. It is this readers belief that High Magick as in the Golden dawn,and the Necronomicon tradition will help. Knowledge is Power.

Beyond the usual dualism in Magick.

This book goes beyond prehistoric Sumeria. It is a priceless item for those working with ancient Mesopotamian mysticism, or the Necronomicon Tradition. The approach embodied in The Ivory Tablets is both ancient and practical simultaneously. This manuscript is about Unity. There are few grimoires, or mystical texts, that manage to go beyond the usual dualism. It should noted that it can be dangerous for the uninitiated if not followed correctly. Hopefully, the curious and insincere will not receive any effect from it. The reading is inspiring, and the attentive reader can gain a lot of knowledge on his path in the prehistoric Sumerian studies.

Worked Like a Charm for Me

This book was invaluable in showing a recommended order of adjustments. Using the seam method taught by Judith Rasband (a collaborator of Ms. Liechty) and following this recommended order led me to a very good fit in my muslin on my first try. And, after making adjustments to my pattern, my cut-out fabric seams matched exactly where they were meant to match, and my grainline hung straight from my bust and my hips, just as they were supposed to! (I used to say "Oh, well!" to myself after slash-method alterations.)

This book also discusses the different adjustment variations and their effect on garment silhouette. It includes useful discussion of which design lines will either accent or camouflage those variations from the standard size.

If you are willing to read and follow the book, you should get good results. However, if you want 1) accurate measurements by fitting experts, and 2) personally guided instruction to augment the book's written word, please contact Conselle to learn about one of its fitting workshop retreats. By the end of the workshop, you will say, "Duh, this makes so much sense!" and "This saved me so much time!"

In short, this book tames the insanity one might experience in fine-tuning the fit of purchased garment patterns.

THE definitive answer to fit

I have a number of other books on fitting, and absolutely none of them come anywhere close to this book. Save your money and buy only this one book to help you custom fit your clothes properly (it is not cheap but is definitely worth the investment). The authors explain what good fitting clothes actually are (I have never seen this anywhere else), they explain body types and compatible clothing, how to fit a sloper and different ways to test a commercial pattern against your custom, well-fitted sloper (and the advantages and disadvantages of each approach). They then break down possible fitting problems into specific body areas and show what the wrinkles will look like that indicate what fitting problem is actually present. Then they explain what causes the fitting problem, what other areas of the body are affected by that fitting problem, and then 3 different methods of altering your sloper or commercial pattern to accommodate the body. If you want to sew your own clothes then you'll want them to actually fit you better than RTW clothing or you are wasting your time. This book is a gem and worth every penny. It's a real keeper.

New edition not exactly improved

My college level Pattern Alteration and Fitting class is using this book as a text. The instructor has allowed students to come in with the previous edition, and so it's easy to go back and forth to see what has been changed. For the good, the instructor has been making us do the alterations mapped out in the book on half scale paper models first, and the information on the pages has been letter perfect, not to mention the diagrams showing one where to cut, slash, and spread, or fold to adjust the pattern piece. Very, very helpful trying this info out on a mock-up first before attempting to do it in fiber.

Really, the issue that I have is that in older editions Judith Rasband was the sole author and included photographs of suggested ready to wear fashions for each type of figure "flaw/challenge." There aren't so many of these in the newest edition. Of course, the old edition screamed 80's fashion, so that probably has a lot to do with it, but there are young ladies in my class who are absolute beginners at sewing, and the diagrams in the book that only have arrows designating that the design emphasis should be higher, lower, in, or out on body parts in question makes absolutely no sense to those girls. It is a lot easier having a photo showing what real high-waisted trousers look like on a long waisted figure (for those who grew up wearing nothing but low-rise pants) or longer hemlines to cover up problem calves. I suppose that Liechty intended that cutting the majority of "fashion plates" out of the book would make it more utilitarian in the long run, but trust me when I say that there are people who have problems visualizing and need a lot of examples in photos to spell out multiple suggested solutions before it makes sense to them.

I have been doing basic sewing a very long time (as in don't deviate from the Butterick pattern), and so the other beef I have is how do I apply these alterations from the diagrams in this book, which appear to be copied from fitting shells, to fashion patterns? I would recommend "Fantastic Fit for Every Body" by Gale Grigg Hazen to help transfer the important fundamentals shown in this book to fashion pattern pieces on real bodies. The Hazen book has good reference photographs as well as drawings, and the two work well in tandem.

Fabulous Fit is a good piece of reference, but it's not for someone who just learned to sew recently. If you have a well-experienced sewing buddy who can help you with the info in this book, then go ahead and buy it with the intention of having your sewing buddy help you out.

The Sequel is Better

A great book but I found THE Classroom Management Book (by the same author) more helpful than this one. The First Days of School sets the stage for the strategy of procedures in the classroom. THE Classroom Management Book fast-forwards through theory and shows real-life procedures that you can actually use. If you already have a good grasp of teaching philosophies or you've been teaching for more than a year, you can probably skip this one and go straight to the sequel.

Very Enjoyable and Informative Book

This has been the best book I have read about teaching. I always sell my school books when I am done with the semester, but I actually enjoyed this book so much that I will hold on to it. I think it will be very useful during my first year of teaching. It is easy and enjoyable to read, which is really saying something for a textbook!

Inconvenient Format; Lovely Book

I appreciate that I could get this book in Kindle format, and the content itself is very helpful to pre-service teachers like myself (and I imagine veterans as well). However, the Kindle version is poorly put together. I can't find anything my teacher is talking about in class quickly, because this e-book doesn't have real page numbers - you know the kind, they have the Kindle version of a page at the bottom (place __ out of __, or a percentage read, etc.) but they ALSO include the page numbers from the physical book. This e-book doesn't have that feature - very frustrating! Something used in a classroom where a teacher often teaches from a physical copy should be organized in a way that makes it easy to navigate the e-book alongside the real book, and this one does not meet that expectation. In hindsight, it might have been prudent to purchase the physical book...I may still do that, because it's a great book and I want to use it in my classroom one day, but the Kindle version is too cumbersome for frequent use beyond this semester.

VERY great book...there were graphs on my step 1 that were straight outta this book....if ur on a systems based coursework use it...read it twice in prep for the boards...and u'll do great....do the questions on subjects u aren't clear on...

for BOD, i'd read the heart section during the cardiovascular section...and kidney during renal...and so forth...

THE Step 1 Physiology review

This book is the best review for physiology on Step 1. That does not mean it is the most detailed, or that it has everything, but in terms of high-yield information that is managable in limited time, it takes the cake. It follows the format of Costanzo's larger text "Physiology" which is more intended for coursework, and which is also excellent. It is loaded with high-yield information and great diagrams. If you know it well, you will be well prepared for Step 1 (and physiology is a pretty big part of that exam.)

Most physio topics are coverede very well. Some pathophysiology topics (e.g. cardiac arrhythmia) are not. In those cases, "Pathophysiology for the Boards and Wards" can be used as a supplement. It wil not be enough by itself for coursework. Suggestions for a course textbook are Costanzo's "Physiology" or "NMS Physiology", both of which are excellent. NMS has more detail, Costanzo is somewhat easier to read. But for Step 1 physiology studying, this book it it.

Really helps you pick out the things you MUST KNOW. Great tables.

Doesn't have enough substance or diagrams for renal physio. It also doesn't cover clotting/coagulation (please correct me if i'm wrong), so make sure you get that info elsewhere...

Good book from the theorists perspective but not a book that will help you learn and apply in practical situations.

Mr. Saaty appears to be gifted in this area and his development of the topics is clear and concise.

Initially gave three stars but changed to four since I am rating the book on content only (using other books for practice).

This book is unlike Thomas L. Saaty's other books. It is readable. It broadly covers a variety of topics in Operation Research. The topics are fundamental to OR. I did not read the book straight through, but did read several chapters which interested me. In the last couple of chapters he philosophizes about the use of OR. Since the book was written several years ago, I will let the present practicioners of OR decide whether he was right or not.
