About the Author
Robert Gryn was born too old, and immediately out of place in the middle of communist Poland. He spent his youth colored by that country's gray cities and empty sentiments. Early on, he found solace in works of fiction, and was soon drawn to those that extolled the fantastic and impossible. The possible just seemed so unremarkable among the harsh concrete and unrealized dreams of the last days of communism.
Later in America, he studied too many subjects, ranging from computer programming to mythology and then worked for a number of years in consulting. His efforts centered on learning the unique languages of each client; the businessman, the lawyer, the programmer, the executive. All the while, he searched for the right voice for the dreams that haunted him in every turn of the eye, every clever phrase, every puddle of water reflecting unknown skies.
His first work, Fields of Rust, is inspired by the Hindu epic, The Mahabharata. Set at the cold end of the universe, human stubbornness, heroic cycles, and mutable causality all play a role in the final conflict to be fought with bare hands and impossible war machines. The sequel, The Light of Murder, will be released shortly.

An unusual and extraordinary read for Sci-Fi and Fantasy lovers.

Here is a great book for all you Sci-Fi lovers with Fantasy added to the story to the likes of sprites, fairies, and grotesque monsters. The main character of this book is Princess Astra. She rules the kingdom Galatopia with her parent and two sisters, but she has a secret she must hide from her family. Princess Astra goes to sleep every night and has dreams. In the kingdom, she rules over no one ever sleeps or dream and those that do are either cast out or put to death. Princess Astra becomes board living in the perfect Galatopia and the way it is ruled for only the perfect can live. She wants to find out more about what goes on outside her world and to learn if there is a cure for herself and the others like her. Princess Astra decides one day to just go off on her own to explore if there is more interesting and new beautiful music that can be added to the Canon, plus to see what if her visions she dreams about every night having any meaning. What a world she will find! There is a cast of unusual characters living the world from dark and murderous monsters and knights on horseback to Voiders, nanomancers, and a whole other cast of strange beings that are made from mechanical part mixed in with human parts. Good thing there is a context in the back of the book to help you keep the strange names and beings straight and weapons with a brief description of each of them. I found some of the ways the clothing and helmets work super futuristic and unique, what an imagination this writer has, how does he come up with all these unusual designs? This will be an extraordinary read for Sci-Fi and Fantasy lovers who like the best of both worlds mixed together.

A tale for all

Gryn's stand-alone novel Quantum Beauty is a great read, not just for the story, but also the characters. It is set in a world where only the unfortunate few, in an otherwise perfect world, suffer from the affliction of sleep. The youngest princess believes the illness proves the world is not perfect and goes on an interstellar quest to save her people and herself.
As for the characters, they are all flawed but likable. This adds an interesting twist as there's usually not a clear "good guy" and I found myself questioning whether I even wanted the princess to succeed (no spoilers).
However, the "beauty" of this book is that Gryn chose a female lead, which truly enhances the story. Her empathy and way of thinking (and not her looks) alter the path of the story. This was a risky move, but the way he executed it really elevated the story. Gryn's writing highlights the difference between how male and female characters can, and should be written.
I am a guy and recommend this book to men and women alike. I'm looking forward to the day in the not-so-distance future when I can brag to my friends that I discovered Robert Gryn.

In Quantum Beauty by Robert Gryn, the heroine Astra is inclined to search for new and beautiful in music, in colors, in all aspects of her young life. Quantum Beauty explores the adventurous tale of Astra, a beautiful princess in search of answers.
Quantum Beauty embraces an action filled fantasy tale with its own world and unique words. Astra and partake in adventures that bring about a vast range of experiences. Quantum Beauty is filled with creativity.
This story was a little slow for me. I found the dialog a bit too formal and my attention wandered. However, I appreciated the female lead, the question of "perfectness" and the beauty embraced through change.
