ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

I haven't even finished reading the book but I was compelled to do this. This book is awesome! CC Mackenzie is definitely now on my favorite authors list. If you really get into books and the characters like me then you're gonna love this book. It's really nice to see the continued interaction between Nico and Bronte and Alexander and with the newest addition Josh! I have to restrain myself from lol. I know some people are gonna be frustrated with the length of time Alexander and Rosie is taking to sort out their feelings for each other but I believe it's worth it. So buy the book and start reading, and you can check out the other 2 books in this series "Reckless Nights in Rome" and "A stormy Spring". Hope this is not the end of this series.

(UPDATE) 4 hours later, ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! Yes it was frustrating at times wanting to get to the end but it was worth it and I'm happy to know this is not the last of this series. Woo Hoo can't wait!

I enjoyed these characters especially Rosie and Alexander. Although some parts were a little predictable I still thought the author kept me on my toes. These two are a freakin riot, friends, secretly in love and so much more. Love Bronte and Nico too great secondary characters, they make the book that much better. Love the meddling town, sometimes though I wanted to slap those gossipers and the petty bull crap they cause but I loved it. I loved the way Rosie is (...and she's back) lol too cute and Alexander's way of running his tongue over his top teeth when he's irritated which seems to be quit a lot at times. I just enjoyed the banter and flirty eyes and kisses...super sexy and the Love Muscle too. Josh made the book too, he's super cute a total flirt and just too funny. All around great read, cute, sweet, funny and loving all in one. 4.5 stars review by upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com - Nanee

What can I say this story is amazing. I can picture it being movie worthy. I mean the action, the suspense, the romance from this novel had me from front to back in one read. I will gladly read any book from CC MacKenze without a shadow of a doubt. Keep up the wonderful gift you have CC :)

ZBrush is a very difficult program to crack into, and version history vs the instructional software is super important. Ensure that you are working with the version of ZBrush that the book is for, otherwise you may find yourself hitting a couple of snags frequently. The book is very wordy and technical though it is written for beginners. I haven't really found a better publication for learning ZBrush thus far. This will definitely teach you how to use the program, but just be prepared for a steap learning curve if you are unfamiliar with it.

Good, but not as focused as it could be

This book does effectively introduce Zbrush. However, I felt that the book gives equal time to features that a novice like myself should not touch or even need until later. Not every Zbrush menu item is equally important. I got bored looking at advanced features, and skipped parts that I had to review later. I resorted to an internet search to learn the Remesh tool.

Yes, this is a good book, but ... the core of what you need to know and use on a regular basis is scattered a bit throughout the book. Too scattered. You can easily get bored and lost trying to find a specific feature in whatever advanced example the author has hidden it in. Zbrush is really ... overall ... not that hard. Hope that helps.

Bottom line, yes, the book is good, but you will need the Pixologic "Introducing Zbrush" guide off the internet, and time with a few tutorial sites as well.

Maybe what I really need was "Zbrush for Dummies", but now I am good. more or less.

I can't say enough about how great this book is. I have learned more from this book single handedly than any user tutorial on the internet or books that I'v purchased. My end goal was to make a movie, I spent years learning 3ds Max only to turn around and use this book and easily pass my previous limitations in a single week.

Part 2 Oracle Security Explained

This is an excellent part 2 book for anyone looking to understand the overall Oracle security architecture. The book is easy to read and understand. Has plenty of examples that improved my understanding of the concept being discussed. I was happy that it didn't repeat the content of Knox's first book (Effective Security by Design) and was intentionally written to take the reader onto the next level of learning Oracle security. Would recommend this to any DBA and application server administrator.

Just bought the Kindle version on 7/31/2012

As I have not had a lot of chances to work with Oracle security, I am still reading David Knox's first book (Effective Oracle Database 10g Security Design). But I am very interested in learning Oracle database/application security, so I started searching David Knox again on 7/31/2012 and found out his new book and I bought the Kindle version right away. I have spent some time reading the Oracle documents on database vault and audit vault, but I am very eager to read what David Knox and his group have to say on this topic. I am also wondering why there had just been one user comments here since the book was published. I will update my review after I have read the book.

Torben Juul Andersen, Professor of Strategy and International Management, Copenhagen Business School,Maxine Garvey, Program Leader, The World Bank,Oliviero Roggi, Professor of Finance; Visiting Professor of Finance, University of Florence; NYU Stern School of Business

Torben Juul Andersen is Professor of Strategy and International Management at the Copenhagen Business School and was Associate Dean of the MBA Program 2008-2012. He previously taught financial economics at George Mason University and Johns Hopkins University. He has held executive positions at Citibank/Citicorp Investment Bank, Unibank, SDS Securities and Hagler-Bailly Consulting. He is the author of numerous academic articles and books including Strategic Risk Management Practice (Cambridge University Press) and Perspectives on Strategic Risk Management (CBS Press). His articles have appeared in Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management Studies, Long Range Planning, and Journal of Business Research among others. Dr Andersen holds a PhD in strategy and financial management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MBA from McGill University, and an MSc in economics from the University of Copenhagen.


Maxine Garvey specializes in strategic and financial analysis particularly for enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of enterprises. She is Senior Operations Officer at the IBRD, World Bank. Previously she was a senior corporate governance officer and task manager for the SME corporate integrity program at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), World Bank. Prior to joining the IFC, Dr Garvey worked as a management consultant with Analysis Group (New York), AT. Kearney (Toronto), and PriceWaterhouseCoopers (Kingston). She provided advisory services in strategy and financial management, working with firms in a wide range of industries, including financial services, telecommunications, and retail. Dr Garvey has also taught strategy, finance, and international business at New York University and the Mona School of Business (MSB), University of the West Indies. In addition, she has worked as a manager in industry and consulting firms. Dr Garvey holds a PhD and MBA from Stern Business School.

Oliviero Roggi is Professor of Finance at the University of Florence. He was Visiting Scholar at NYU Stern School of Business in 2009, Salomon Center Research Fellow in 2010, and Visiting Associate Professor of Finance in 2011. Dr Roggi has published papers and books on risk management and rating models including Measuring and Managing Risk published by World Scientific Press with Ed Altman (eds). He co-authored the third Italian edition of Applied Corporate Finance with Aswath Damodaran and the IFC World Bank handbook Risk Taking: A Corporate Governance Perspective with Aswath Damodaran and Maxine Garvey. Dr Roggi founded the Finanza Firenze Research Center in 2007 and partnered with Professor Ed Altman in 2008 to establish the International Risk Management Conference. He is a consultant for the European Commission Regione Toscana and member of the Scientific Committee of the Country Risk Forum of the Italian Bankers Association (Associazione Bancaria Italiana - ABI).

About the Author
Leonard Susskind has been the Felix Bloch Professor in theoretical physics at Stanford University since 1978. The author of The Cosmic Landscape, he is a member of the National Academy of Science and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the recipient of numerous prizes including the science writing prize of the American Institute of Physics for his Scientific American article on black holes. He lives in Palo Alto, California.

A popularisation that mostly works

Susskind describes the decades-long battle between the quantum mechanics community and the general relativists as to whether information is lost when objects pass through the event horizon of a black hole and the hole eventually evaporates. According to Prof. Hawking and the GR community, as nothing can ever reappear from inside an event horizon, the information is indeed totally lost.

Susskind and Gerard 't Hooft begged to differ. Loss of information would violate the basic time-reversibility of QM: Hawking's ideas would lead to universe-destroying phenomena (p. 23). Somehow, the information locked the wrong side of the event horizon must leak out via Hawking radiation. But how?

The resolution of this dilemma took many years of conjectures and refutations. Susskind takes us on a tour of entropy, holographic principles and physics at the Planck scale. And the adversarial plot keeps the reader turning the pages.

I am normally very dubious about popularisations. They proceed by raking up endless analogies which never quite fit together, so that by the end of the book, your mind is like that jig-saw puzzle you bought and could never fit together.

This book was never going to be the exception - the mathematics of quantum field theory, general relativity and string theory are just too arcane for popular culture concepts to cohere around. However, there are wonderful insights all the way through this book and we do end up learning something about the large scale map of the territory. Apparently even the experts find it hard to get the whole thing into one focus.

Susskind shines !!

This is absolutely the greatest example of what popular science book about theoretical physics/cosmology should be !! Writing is so brilliant, witty, straightforward, direct and succinct, that regardless of education level, anybody can enjoy interesting content (history of science as well as author's personal story) of "The Black Hole War". Author uses analogies in the best possible way, comparable only to Brian Greene and Michio Kaku. Drawings are frequent, well selected, informative and easy to understand. He writes: "The real tools for understanding the quantum universe are abstract mathematics: infinite dimensional Hilbert spaces, projection operators, unitary matrices and a lot of other advanced principles that take a few years to learn. But let's see how we do in just a few pages". AND HE DELIVERES !! While this book could be a starter for anybody, I recommend it to all who know Kip Thorne's famous work. For reason unknown to me, important black hole "war" is not mentioned in "Black Holes & Time Warps" at all, therefore Susskind's work becomes great extension to BH history of science. Professor Susskind created a true masterpiece where he even acknowledges coexistence of science and faith by writing: "The British intellectual world seems to be big enough for both Dawkins and Polkinghorne". Nothing but big applaud for the author and his effort !!

Liked it, didn't love it

I find the material covered by Leonard Susskind in The Black Hole War intrinsically interesting, and Mr. Susskind does a creditable job of laying it out. The problem with this book is not the subject matter, but rather the writing and, even more so, the editing. The editor should have reigned in Mr. Susskind's penchant for rambling, tangential explanations. Covering this material without mathematics is a daunting task, and Mr. Susskind gives it a reasonable shot. But I was often left with the feeling that I should have had a better understanding than I did. For instance, his treatment of "horizon atoms" left me scratching my head.

One other aspect bothered me, and that was the overly blunt assessment of Stephen Hawking's current cognitive abilities. It was speculative and not particularly nice. A scientist search for truth needs to be bounded by a respect for the personal (as opposed to professional) privacy of living fellow scientists.

Finally, the whole premise of a "war" is really labored. Scientific theories change over time as new facts arrive. War is something else. The Catholic Church went to war against Galileo. Mr. Susskind participated in a, at-best, spirited debate.

I am really happy, the book is fine in its content and shape. The only difficulty that I encountered is the delay in reaching it to me. I was promised that the book would arrive here with in 15 days. (maximum). Unfortunately it took another 16 days (32 days). Apart form this delay I am happy with your service. If you can do something with regard to this delay, I would be extremely greatful to you.
